Ghana to host African Oil Week Conference and Exhibition in September 2025

Ghana has been selected to host the prestigious African Oil Week (AOW) conference, networking event, and exhibition in September 2025.

This marks the first time in the 30-year history of the event that it will be held outside its traditional venue in Cape Town, South Africa.

The world-class programme brings together governments, regulators, global operators, power producers, investors, and service providers, all working to develop policy, secure investments, and nurture partnerships to promote sustainable development and energy transformation across the continent and beyond.

The event attracts over 1,600 delegates from more than 70 countries, including 80 ministers and government officials, alongside delegates from 760 companies in the oil and gas sector.

The announcement was made by Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers’ Association (APPO), during the official opening of the week-long AOW Conference, Networking, and Exhibition in Cape Town today.

Dr. Ibrahim expressed the commitment of key players, including the African Energy Chamber, organisers of Energy Week, and Sankofa, the new owners of AOW and APPO, to work together for the benefit of Africa's energy industry.

"To start with, African Oil Week is moving its base from Cape Town to Accra in 2025," Dr. Ibrahim stated, adding that more details about Ghana’s selection will be revealed on Thursday by the management of Sankofa Events.

Ghana’s Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Herbert Krapa, who also spoke at the opening ceremony, expressed excitement over the announcement, saying, "Ghana is proud to be hosting Africa Oil Week 2025."

Mr. Krapa assured the audience that the Ghanaian government is fully committed to maintaining the Pan-African focus of Africa Oil Week. He invited governments, national oil companies, regulators, and private sector players from across the continent to share their experiences and take advantage of the opportunities available in Africa’s energy sector.

“We welcome you to Ghana, and we encourage you to be part of this exciting new chapter. You have the full commitment of the government to ensure that Africa Oil Week in Accra will be everything you’ve known it to be in Cape Town—and more," Mr. Krapa said.

He expressed confidence that, together, Africans can shape the future of energy on the continent and create lasting benefits for its people.

Mr. Krapa also praised Sankofa Events, led by Paul Sinclair, for their vision for Africa’s oil and gas sector, noting that the government of Ghana considers Sankofa a true advocate for the region.
