GNCCI begins work on construction of office complex

The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has performed a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an office complex for the chamber at a cost of US$3.2 million.

The two-storey building project, when completed, will have conference rooms, reception, 34 parking capacity, offices, restaurant, roof floor for corporate events and gym.

The President of the chamber, Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso I, said at the ceremony on Thursday, April 12 in Accra that Yawson and Lombardi LLC had been contracted as the engineer to spearhead the project and ensure its timely completion.

“This multi-purpose building is designed by A + H Architects. We, therefore, call on individuals and institutions to support this worthy course.”

He noted that it was the expectation of the chamber that the project would get the needed support for state and non-state actors and completed according to the schedule.

“The GNCCI is committed to serving as the link between the private sector and the government at the various levels while offering its members a myriad of business support services.”

 GNCCI’s excitement

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GNCCI, Mr Mark Badu Aboagyei, said the chamber and its members were elated to see the commencement of the office complex.

“Those who also know the history of the chamber established over 250 years ago are aware that it is operating in rented facilities, and this is often associated with moving from one place to another,” he said.

He said moving from one place to the other was very difficult and it was for that reason that the chamber and its stakeholders were happy to see this dream come true.

Chamber commended

The Minister of Trade and Industry (MoTI), Mr Alan Kyerematen, commended the chamber for its bold steps to construct an office complex.

The minister was hopeful that the project would contribute to the enhancement of the operations of the chamber.

“The chamber has been a long partner of the government over the years and currently the two parties are working together to implement its key economic programmes,” he said.

Most of such programmes, he mentioned, were the one-district, one-factory, one region, one industrial park and the stimulus package to support distressed companies.

Mr Kyerematen said the government would continue to seek stronger partnership with the chamber and the private sector in general to be able to move Ghana beyond aid.

“It is important for stakeholders to collaborate to improve economic prospects in the country,” the minister added.
