GNPC staff lead clean-up drive along Meridian-Harbor Road in Tema

Staff and management of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) have joined forces with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and Zesta Environmental Solutions to clean the Meridian-Harbor Road area in Tema.

The exercise, which formed part of GNPC’s ECO MOTION campaign, saw employees clear litter and debris from the busy road as part of a broader effort to promote clean, green, and sustainable communities.

The Director of Corporate Affairs at GNPC, Eric Pwadura, participated in the initiative, underscoring the state oil company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The Head of Events at GNPC’s Corporate Affairs Directorate, Eunice Ofori, stressed the long-term importance of such environmental actions. “This is important because we are doing it for our future generations unborn, because if the environment is not clean when we grow crops they won’t yield good harvests, the filth will choke it,” she explained.

Ofori emphasised the urgency of collective environmental responsibility, adding: “We need to leave a clean environment as legacy because there is a saying that when the last tree dies the last man dies. We want to see green vegetation, we want to clean and plant trees.”

She also made a broader appeal for community involvement, stating: “I am calling on the people of Tema and its environs to also take up the mantle and do their best to keep their surroundings clean.”

The clean-up exercise reflects the practical implementation of GNPC’s ECO MOTION campaign, which operates under the slogan #GreenTodayGreenerTomorrow. The initiative highlights the corporation’s focus on direct action and partnerships to improve local environmental conditions.

The collaboration with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and Zesta Environmental Solutions demonstrates how corporate entities can work with local government and specialised agencies to address environmental challenges.
