Johnnie Walker, the world’s leading Scotch whisky brand, has taken a bold step in environmental stewardship by planting 6,500 trees in Ghana’s Chipa Forest Reserve as part of Guinness Ghana’s 65th anniversary celebrations. The initiative marks the third consecutive year of reforestation efforts by the brand in collaboration with the Forestry Commission of Ghana.

The 2025 tree-planting campaign holds special significance, with each tree symbolising a year of Guinness Ghana’s presence in the country and reflecting the brand’s continued commitment to sustainable progress. Since the project’s inception in 2023, more than 2,000 trees—including Mahogany, Acacia, and Rain Trees—have been planted to restore biodiversity and protect vital ecosystems within one of Ghana’s critical forest zones.

Speaking during the launch of this year’s exercise, Felicite Nson, Managing Director at Guinness Ghana, stressed the importance of collective action in environmental preservation. “Environmental sustainability and preservation require the collective effort of all stakeholders. We’re proud of the bold steps we have taken to demonstrate and reinforce our contribution to be sustainable by design through the reduction of carbon emissions, and I urge everyone from businesses to individuals to take an active role in protecting our environment. The future of our communities and planet depends on it,” she said.

This year’s reforestation aligns with the Forestry Commission’s national theme, “Tree for Life,” and reinforces the broader sustainability agenda of Guinness Ghana under its ‘Society 2030: Spirit of Progress’ framework. The initiative, according to organisers, is not merely about planting trees but fostering ecosystems that will support life and livelihoods for generations to come.

Estella Muzito, Marketing & Innovations Director at Guinness Ghana, emphasised the brand’s evolving focus on purpose-driven actions. “Johnnie Walker’s decision to ‘step out of the box’ goes beyond packaging, it’s a call to walk with purpose. For us, stepping out of the box means going beyond traditional brand activity and doing work that genuinely improves lives and landscapes. We understand how much sustainability matters to our consumers, and we’re committed to making a meaningful impact through real action. From reducing waste to restoring forests, we’re walking the talk,” she noted.

Unlike symbolic tree-planting exercises, the Chipa Forest campaign adopts a continuous care model. The Johnnie Walker team returns annually to assess the health of the planted trees and replaces any lost to natural threats like fire or drought. This model ensures the long-term viability and ecological success of the project.

The symbolic planting of 6,500 trees this year commemorates more than just corporate longevity. It encapsulates the guiding principle of the Johnnie Walker brand—Keep Walking—while reaffirming Guinness Ghana’s legacy as a forward-thinking, environmentally responsible company.

As the brand celebrates 65 years of shared progress in Ghana, the tree-planting initiative offers a living tribute to that journey—one rooted in sustainability, resilience, and commitment to the future.
