PowerSide event spotlights leadership pipeline for women as Chalom Hights turns one

Chalom Hights has marked its first anniversary with the hosting of PowerSide, a mentorship and leadership event in Accra that brought together young female corporate professionals and experienced women leaders to address career growth, confidence and access to opportunity.

The event, held at the Airport View Event Center, was positioned as both a celebration of the organisation’s first year and a practical intervention aimed at supporting women navigating professional and leadership spaces. Organisers said PowerSide reflected Chalom Hights’ broader mission to deliberately create access, guidance and community for women seeking to advance in their careers.

Central to the programme was a pilot mentorship cohort made up of 10 young women working in corporate environments. They were paired with accomplished female professionals from different sectors in a setting designed to prioritise close interaction and practical exchange rather than large-scale networking.

A key feature of the event was a series of speed mentorship sessions that enabled one-on-one conversations between mentors and mentees within a structured timeframe. The format allowed mentees to engage multiple mentors on issues including career progression, leadership development, workplace challenges, personal branding and navigating corporate cultures as women. Organisers said the approach was intended to move discussions beyond theory to specific, actionable guidance.

Alongside the mentorship sessions, a panel discussion brought together three senior female professionals who shared reflections drawn from their leadership journeys. The discussion focused on career transitions, building credibility in male-dominated environments and the importance of mentorship, community and self-belief in sustaining professional growth. Speakers also underscored that leadership development is rarely linear and often requires resilience and clarity of purpose.

The conversations at PowerSide were framed around the theme Power, Purpose and Presence, which ran through both the mentorship sessions and the panel engagement. Power was discussed in terms of self-awareness and confidence, while purpose centred on long-term impact and intentional career choices. Presence was highlighted as a critical factor in leadership, encompassing executive bearing, emotional intelligence and how women position themselves in professional spaces.

The organisers said the choice of venue reflected the ambition of the event and the organisation’s evolving vision. They described PowerSide as a milestone that demonstrated the impact of targeted mentorship and community-building, particularly at a time when young professionals are seeking clearer pathways to leadership.

Looking ahead, Chalom Hights said it plans to expand the PowerSide concept into a broader mentorship ecosystem. Future initiatives are expected to include more structured mentorship cohorts, leadership development programmes and skills-based masterclasses aimed at sustaining engagement beyond single events.

Reflecting on the anniversary and the significance of PowerSide, the Founder of Chalom Hights, Rita Adu Boateng, said: “PowerSide represents everything Chalom Hights stands for—creating access, building confidence, and reminding women that they already carry the power they seek. When women are clear on their purpose and intentional about their presence, they do not just occupy spaces; they transform them.”

As Chalom Hights enters its second year, the organisation says it is focused on translating vision into long-term action, with PowerSide serving as an early indication of how mentorship and intentional leadership development can shape the next generation of women leaders.
