Rujo Agri-Trade to scale climate-smart agric

Rujo Agri-Trade Ltd., a Northern Ghana-based agribusiness with a mission to transform smallholder farming through innovation and inclusion, has secured funding from RDF Ghana.

This investment marks a major milestone for Rujo and will be instrumental in scaling its operations and empowering more rural farming communities, particularly women and youth.

Founded in 2014, Rujo Agri-Trade works with over 3,500 smallholder farmers, primarily cultivating rice and soybean across Northern, Savannah, and Upper East regions.

The company provides bundled input services—including seeds, fertilizers, ploughing, and harvesting—through a robust network of Farm Enterprise Advisors and Community Champions, using an in-kind repayment system that supports farmers’ cash flow.

The newly raised capital will enable the company to the scale-up of the company’s Rice input credit scheme using the tenets of regenerative agriculture and climate-smart production techniques, which aim to conserve the environment and reduce production costs.

Also to facilitate access to reliable market for the company’s network of farmers Aggregate paddy and ensure availability of raw materials for the company’s newly installed Rice Processing Plant and De-risk smallholder farmers production through the incorporation of Agricultural insurance in the company’s out-grower scheme.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rujo Agri-Trade, Joshua Toatoba, said the funding was a strong endorsement of Rujo’s model and commitment to improving farmer livelihoods through sustainable practices.

“We are grateful to RDF Ghana and Pangea Africa for believing in our vision. This support will help us deepen our reach and improve productivity while promoting climate resilience in Ghana’s food systems,” he stated.

This transaction was facilitated by Pangea Africa Ltd., Rujo’s strategic advisory partner, whose business readiness and investment facilitation services have supported agribusinesses across Ghana to unlock growth capital.

“Rujo is an example of a farmer-centric business using innovation and inclusion to address systemic challenges in agriculture. We are proud to have worked alongside them and look forward to their next growth chapter,” a Partner at Pangea Africa, John Scicchitano said.
