They include Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) and Academic City University College (ACUC) who are making their maiden appearance at the semifinals of the competition.

The rest are University of Ghana (UG), University of Cape Coast (UCC), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

Semifinals

The first semifinals contest will be a tough one between UEW, the team with the highest point accumulation at the quarterfinals stage, and UG, the southern zone champion and one of last year’s semifinalists.

The second contest will be between GCTU, and UCC, the two times national champions.

The last contest will be between KNUST, the defending national champions and ACUC.

Quarter finals

Koforidua Technical University (KTU), Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD UBIDS) and Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) dropped out of the competition after making it to the national quarter final stage.

The unstable timetables of the Tertiary institutions where some of the participating schools are either writing IAs or major exams is the major cause of the dropout.

As a result, their scheduled adversaries: UG, UCC and GCTU automatically secured their slots in the semifinals stage of the competition.

While KNUST defeated Pentecost University 74-31.33 after a heated contest on Tuesday, UEW won 85.5 - 23 points against Accra Technical University (ATU) to secure a slot in the semifinals.

After a tough competition Wednesday at the Executive Theatre of TV3, ACUC for the very first time on a second attempt in the competition secured the last slot in the semifinals after earning 31 points against Christ Apostolic University - 22.5 points.

Impact

The TBSC is a tertiary school quiz contest organised by the Graphic Business to encourage intellectual rivalry among students in various tertiary institutions around the country.

As the country's leading economic and financial newspaper, it is optimistic that the challenge will serve as a fertile ground for nurturing students' interest in business issues and entrepreneurship in general, in addition to providing contestants with the opportunity to demonstrate their intellectual prowess, which could earn their schools’ bragging rights.
