Unichem Group premieres legacy documentary honouring family's resilience and impact in healthcare

In an emotional and inspiring cinematic debut, Unichem Group, in partnership with LUEX Healthcare UK, has premiered a legacy documentary titled “ALL TOGETHER NOW”, chronicling the extraordinary journey of one family’s impact on healthcare in West Africa.

The film pays tribute to the indomitable spirit of the Mohan family, whose multigenerational commitment to healing has helped transform the pharmaceutical industry across the continent.

At the heart of the documentary is the story of Dr H.D. Mohan, who was displaced at the age of 12 during the 1947 Partition of Sindh between India and Pakistan — one of the largest and most traumatic mass migrations in modern history. Like many Sindhi Hindus, he sought refuge and purpose in West Africa, eventually settling in Liberia.

In Liberia, Dr Mohan built more than just a business; he established a mission to deliver trusted, ethical healthcare. Partnering with international pharmaceutical brands such as Pfizer and Boots, he played a key role in bringing world-class medical products to underserved markets. “This was not a business, but a mission: to heal with dignity, to serve with humility, and to lead with soul,” the documentary narrates.

However, the outbreak of civil war in Liberia in 1989 destroyed everything he had built. With assets lost and records erased, Dr Mohan was forced to start over — again. He relocated to Ghana, not with bitterness, but with humility and a renewed sense of purpose. In 1992, alongside his son, Sir Raj Mohan, now Executive Chairman of Unichem Group, the business was re-established from scratch in Ghana.

Sir Raj Mohan brought spiritual depth and ethical clarity to the re-emerging company, transforming it from a traditional family business into a purpose-driven “business family.” Under his stewardship, Unichem has grown into one of the most respected pharmaceutical institutions in Africa.

Extending the family legacy across borders is Mr Sunil Mohan, CEO of LUEX Healthcare UK. His leadership has turned LUEX into a symbol of clinical trust and ethical accessibility. “We are committed to local production, job creation, and delivering world-class healthcare solutions made in Africa, for Africa,” Mr Sunil Mohan said during a recent visit to Ghana with his wife and LUEX First Lady, Karina Mohan.

Some of LUEX’s flagship products, including Luex Cough Syrup (trusted by over 100 million people), Mycolex (a dermatology-endorsed antifungal treatment), and Metrolex-F (a widely used therapy for infectious diarrhoea), are now staples across Africa.

Also prominently featured in the film is Mr Vishaal Mohan, CEO of Unichem Ghana, who is leading one of the most dynamic pharma marketing teams in Africa. His strategic direction continues to elevate the company’s market presence with a blend of discipline and innovation. Meanwhile, Mr Jason Nana Yaw Mohan, CEO of Unichem Industries, is celebrated for his iconic leadership and deep connection to local communities, making Unichem more than a brand — but a household name.

ALL TOGETHER NOW also stands as an archival feat, bringing together more than 50 voices from across the healthcare ecosystem — including medical doctors, policymakers, pharmacists, government officials, and community partners. One of the most powerful tributes came from Dr Bernard Toboh, a leading urologist, who said: “They have positioned themselves as a leader in uncompromised quality healthcare.”

Hosted by broadcaster Natalie Fort, the premiere events held in Accra and Kumasi received standing ovations. Audiences rose not only for the film, but for the powerful legacy it represents — one of resilience, reinvention, and regenerative leadership.

“ALL TOGETHER NOW isn’t just a film,” said one attendee. “It’s a mirror, a torch, and a movement.”
