Rich Kay minds his business with Wano Pɛ Asɛm
It has always been the dream of every underground artiste to hit the limelight but for most of them, they are not able to do so due to lack of recognition and support.
That notwithstanding, up and coming artiste, Rick Kay, says he is ready to brace all the odds to have the spot light on him. And he hopes to do that with his debut single called Wano Pɛ Asɛm which features Tema based artiste, Stay Jay.
Talking to Showbiz last Monday, Rick Kay expressed his disappointment about how a good number of budding talents are left to rot underground.
He said that, there are not many platforms to unearth such talents instead, the industry and its stakeholders concentrate on projecting already established artistes.
Rich Kay noted that apart from Adom FM’s Kasahari programme which gives underground artistes the opportunity to showcase their talents, there is virtually no other means through which these underground artistes catch the attention of the public.
“This has been the trend and I don’t think that should be the case. I am privileged to be where I am today because I happen to be in Tema, a hood that has the passion of bringing out hidden talents.
“ I am sure my case would have been different if I had found myself in another environment. I call Tema the ‘hope of music in Ghana’. The guys know what they are about,” he stated.
Rich Kay’s Wano Pɛ Asɛm, recorded by MixMaster Garzy is rendered in the popular Alkaida rhythm.
It entreats people to mind their business since people live their lives to please themselves and God and should not be judged by their fellow human beings.
When it was pointed to him that his rapping style on Wano Pɛ Asɛm was not ‘tight’, Rich Kay defended himself saying , “I was being original. I was just being me and not copying anyone’s style. I wanted to be me. The real Rick Kay is what was heard, not copycat of anyone. But of course, there is room for improvement and I hope to get better and better with time,” he stated.
Real name, Richard Quartey, Rick Kay is signed on to 2MG Music and is hopeful Wano Pɛ Asɛm will get him the considerable attention that he wishes for.
