‘Aluguntugui’ still tight

The rate at which hiplife duos and trios are splitting up these days must have sent scare messages among music groups in the country. Only a few days ago, Praye announced that they had come to the end of their musical partnership. The announcement followed recent similar breakups such as that of VIP and Wutah.

But Keche, the duo known for hit songs, Aluguntugui, Sokode and Body lotion say, they are not scared of music group failures that invariably lead to  break ups.

Speaking on behalf of the duo to Showbiz last Monday, Joshua Ampah a member of the group, said that instead of the recent break ups  in music groups scaring them, it has rather strengthened them to stay more together.

“We have sat down without management and have done a lot of talking so that we do not end up like the others. Eventhough we have our problems, I think it is a matter for each group to deal with their issues, he said.

Commenting on those who have been victims, he said “we do not think it is the will of any of them to split. Some groups like the VIP have had spectacular relationships and the end result should not have been what it is today”.

Joshua’s view on how to curb the split syndrome among groups that are still together was that, “we have to let understanding, compromise and tolerance rule.  Anger will come but we have to learn how to deal with it so that it doesn’t take the better part of the group.”

Going further he said, “it should not always be about understanding, compromising and tolerance, trust and openness is also vital. If there is something going on in the group and one is not happy, that person should be able to address it and the other or others should be willing to listen and trash out issues so that peace will prevail”.

Commenting on the relationship between him and Andrew, his partner, Joshua said “ we have become brothers to the extent that Andrew’s mother can ask me to talk to him whenever he did something wrong and the same thing applies to me. We fight, we argue but we do not allow it to affect our work because there are people who look up to us and they will be disappointed if we break up”.

Touching on why they have been missing for some time, he said “we have been in the United Kingdom promoting our songs but we are back and our latest son is Diabetics, goes out for the sweet and sexy ladies”

Currently under Beyond Music, Keche is an Akan word which literally means Skills. Both Joshua Ampah and Andrew Cudjoe were born and raised in Takoradi, in the Western region of Ghana.

Their musical journey started very early in life as they both started singing at Sunday school and through basic education.

They moved to Accra on separate sojourns but their paths crossed again in 2004 and that’s when they came up with the name Keche.

They have songs such as Body Lotion, Pressure, Sokode, Omogemi, Ring My bell ft Sarkodie and Oh My God ft Guru and D Cryme.
