Awards don't define artiste’s success —Eno Barony

IN 2021, she was adjudged Best Rap Performance of the Year award from the prestigious Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), but rapper Eno Barony insists winning awards should not be the benchmark of an artiste's success.

To her, while awards are a welcome recognition, they do not solely define an artiste's impact, influence or accomplishments.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Thursday, January 9, Eno Barony, fondly called Rap Goddess, pointed out that there were many talented and hardworking artistes who hadn’t won any awards yet that didn't diminish their contributions to the music industry.

“I've seen artistes who haven't won awards, but their music have transformed lives, sparked meaningful conversations and brought people together. That, to me, is the true essence of success,” she said. Eno Barony, admired for her healthy competition in a male-dominated rap space plus captivating stage presence, has received several award nominations and won few including the 2021 TGMA Best Rap Performance. She repeated the feat at 3Music Awards the same year.

However, she maintains her focus remains on creating meaningful music that resonate with her audience.

“I believe artistes, in general, sometimes face the issue of not being recognised enough for their contributions. It’s as if without being an award winner, you have no talent and that is why I believe there should be an all-inclusive approach to recognising their efforts,” she stated.

Eno Barony, real name Ruth Nyame Adom, who is currently promoting her latest album, No Manual, expressed excitement over its success.

Checks by Graphic Showbiz indicate the album has recorded over 6 million streams on Audiomack since its release on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

“My fans love tracks such as Soja Go Soja Come featuring King Paluta, Calabash ft Fuse ODG and Street Love ft Jay Bahd. The love and support have been incredible, and I’m so grateful to the producers and collaborators who made this project possible.”

“I wanted to try something different this time. Collaborating with amazing artistes such as King Paluta, Fuse ODG, Jay Bahd and Amerado allowed me to create diverse musical stories. Their unique styles added a fresh flavour to the album,” she explained.

Eno Barony hit the limelight in 2014 when she released Tonga which received commercial airplay.

She later recorded Megye Wo Boy in 2015, collaborating with Abrewa Nana which enhanced her name on the music scene at the time.

Eno Barony recounts her proud music journey, highlighting her achievements particularly in 2024, including the release of No Manual, and hosting the second edition of her annual Eid Concert in Koforidua.
