Don’t play Naija songs – Ashes
Artiste manager, recording engineer and radio/ television personality, Nana opoku, popularly known as Ashes, has called on Ghanaian musicians and industry players to campaign against ghanaian deejays playing Nigerian songs.
According to the man who has worked with the likes of 2Face, Faze, Timaya, Tinny, Kwabena Kwabena and Akatakyie, there was no way Nigerian deejays would play Ghanaian music more than theirs but the same cannot be said here.
“Nigerian musicians had a meeting to stop all deejays in the country from playing Ghanaian songs and it worked for them. I was part of that meeting and I think the same can be done here,” Ashes said.
To him, Ghanaian music was not doing well lately because Ghanaian deejays preferred to play 70 percent Nigerian songs and 30 percent Ghanaian songs.
He said if Ghanaian artistes and industry players campaigned against deejays playing Nigerian songs, there would be no need to invite Nigerian artistes to perform here and pay them huge amounts because we have great musicians who are better than those Nigerians.
“It is sad that Nigerian artistes like Patoranking, Flavour, Round Town, Mr. Eazi and Timaya made it big in Ghana before their own country accepted them.
There is no way Nigerians would accept a Ghanaian artiste to shine over there so why do we entertain them here?” he asked.
His belief is that our musicians die poor because we have embraced Nigerian music much more strongly than ours, thus forcing our musicians out of business.
