Fare thee well Jayne Buckman-Owoo

The die is cast and today, renowned arts writer/actress, Jayne Buckman-Owoo, has taken her final rest. Her final funeral rites came off at St Theresa’s Church at Kaneshie, in Accra.

A graduate of Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Miss Jayne Buckman-Owoo spent all her professional life as a writer with Graphic Showbiz, a brand from the stables of Graphic Communications Group Ltd.(GCGL).

In the over two decades of reporting and writing about the arts, she distinguished herself with her writing skills and command over the English language.

Miss Buckman-Owoo was on top of issues when it came to matters of the creative industry, particularly with players and matters related to the film industry.

In a life devoted to the creative sector, she spent two decades of her journalism career at Graphic Showbiz and was also a popular face on television who hosted popular programmes and on the silver screen featuring in movies.

As an actress herself, she was the go-to person anytime her colleagues needed information or wanted to interview a celebrity who was playing hard to get. Thanks to her affable nature which made her friends with most of these people.

It’s unfortunate that as every person would love to shower praises on a dear colleague during retirement parties or at significant occasions, Jayne didn’t live to experience the joy of such a moment.

The cold hands of death laid its icy hands on her on the morning of Friday, August 18.

Jayne Buckman-Owoo was one of the few journalists who joined Graphic Showbiz in its formative years and has been with the brand till her passing about two months ago.

In 2021, Jayne was honoured for Excellence in Leadership in the Creative Arts by Golden Age Creative Arts Awards (GACAA) and was also presented with a citation for her tremendous contribution to the creative industry.

For colleagues at Graphic Showbiz, the office will not be the same without Miss Jayne, particularly for her contagious laughter. Her absence is so hard to bear but we take consolation that she is in a better place.

From management and workers of GCGL, the good memories will forever be cherished in our hearts, no matter how much time passes.
