Humanitarian movie 'Kadara' wins at Ghana Movie Awards 2024

The production crew of the movie 'Kadara' are celebrating their win for the best 'Music Original Song' at the Ghana Movie Awards which took place at Accra International Conference Centre(AICC) on Saturday, January 18.

According to them, the movie 'Kadara' was produced with the aim of  changing the attitudes and mindset of communities in the Northern part of Ghana which still practiced female genital mutilation.

And so for such a movie with a small audience and non-commercial drive to have received 11 nominations and finally won an award, was a big motivation to them.

Kofi Mulan who received the award on behalf of the team, said, “We are grateful to the organisers of the Ghana Movie Awards. 'Kadara' wasn't meant to necessarily entertain, but to educate, and so we didn’t have that much commercial appeal.

However, we still managed to win today; even with such tough competition from very commercial movies. We thank God", he said.

'Kadara' was shot in the Northern part of Ghana with actors Anthony Woode and Habiba Sinare playing leads. The movie was part of the continuous humanitarian efforts of Habiba Sinare; a Ghanaian actress known for her humanitarian works in Ghana. She has also produced a short movie on breast cancer which is free to watch on YouTube amongst others.
