It’s been a rough ride for me— Yaw Siki
Hiplife artiste now evangelist, Yaw Siki has revealed that it has been a tough journey since he left his old ways to seek a better life in Jesus Christ.
Yaw Siki, whose song Wope Dodo made him a household name in 2011, made the switch from secular to Gospel music in appreciation to God for the second chance offered him when he was involved in a near fatal accident on the Tema Motorway in 2013. He sustained severe injuries and there were fears he wouldn’t make it.

However, after living a godly life for over three years, Yaw Siki told Showbiz in an interview that there were times when he almost gave up and returned to the secular world.
“It’s not easy to take such a bold decision as a young artiste. Things haven’t been rosy. I have had a very rough ride. Sometimes, you are broke and don’t even know where to find your daily bread but in all this, I have strong faith in the Lord. He always provides for me,” he stated.
The artiste who is known in real life as Isaac Okai, says he has always drawn inspiration from the likes of Lord Kenya, Papa Shee and Gemann who have walked his path before but are still going strong in the Lord.
The three and many others, he disclosed have been very instrumental in grooming him for what he describes as the “glorious task ahead”.
When I took a decision to stop singing profane music, there many temptations to go back to my old ways because such a lifestyle was attractive. But I have grown in faith to resist the urge,” Yaw Siki said.
His decision also had consequences as he lost some of his old friends and many of his fans on social media but the Thank You Lord singer said that hasn’t deterred him from pressing on.

Since giving his life to Christ, he has released tracks like Thank You, Ohene and Medi W’akyi. Unfortunately, these songs have not been given the same attention like his secular tracks which he says the media still have interest in.

While he was contemplating his next line of action after the poor reception to his songs, Yaw Siki told Showbiz that God gave him another direction, which was evangelism.
That has seen him preach in commercial vehicles in both Accra and Tema daily in a bid to win more souls for Christ. “I’m no longer with my old management because we have different visions now. Truthfully, my music career isn’t a priority to me now. I believe when the time is ripe, I will be directed to put more effort in it,” he stated.
Yaw Siki’s new life hasn’t made him judgmental of his colleagues in secular music explaining that his old life makes him understand them better.

“I used to smoke and engage in all the negative vices so when I see prostitutes, wee smokers, I understand them better. It took two near fatal accidents for me to get on the right path. Let’s not be quick to condemn them because they need prayers and support,” he appealed.
