It was tough without Deniece

Although they have come out with a couple of singles since they won the maiden edition of Vodafone Icons Diva’s Edition,  female music group, RnM (Rhythm and Melody) from all indications is yet to find their feet in the music industry.

It is obvious that music reality show winners are expected to shine in  the real world after coming tops in the contests but it has been three years and RnM are not among the sought- after  on the scene at the moment.

This has been attributed to the break-away of Deniece Williams who was seen as the pillar of the group during the competition. Natasha Amanda Mann-dedey, a member of RnM who spoke on behalf of the group has, however, denied that assertion and says RnM is doing well without Deniece.

“I will not deny the fact that Deniece  was very good but to attribute our silence to her split is not fair.

“Her departure  took a toll on us but to set the records straight, we have not stopped singing. We are doing well without her and we love what we do.”

Throwing more light on the issue, Natasha who spoke with Showbiz last Tuesday  said: ”We cannot deny the fact that Deniece was more experienced. She  was older and had been singing for eight years when we came together so she understood the industry better than we did. But I believe that individually, our efforts also contributed to make the group come alive.

“We missed her when she left. We were hurt.  We were like a family so the split hit us hard and it was difficult moving on without her but we replaced her with  January. Deniece is gone  but life should still go on,” she said.

According to Natasha, RnM has been on the quiet because “We decided to take a break, research and work on our maiden album which will come out soon.

“As an artiste, if you are always in the face of people, they will get tired of you quickly so we thought it was better to lie low and be working,” she said.

“I strongly believe that when the album comes out, people would understand why we took the break but for now, we are doing well and not in a rush at all,” she added.

Natasha also debunked the  view that they had faded out because  they cannot match the competition from other female artistes.

“We are not scared of competition. In fact, we are not in competition with anyone and we do not have anybody as a measuring tool. We are not intimidated by anyone so we have nothing to worry about.”

RnM is an all-female vocal group currently made up of Natasha, January Leilene Nessel and Stephanie Baaba Lindsay.

The group has songs such as Fresh Boy, Oya, Simple Love, Call The Doctor, Echo and Let It Go to their credit.
