No need for factions in Kumawood –Azigi

Kumawood actor, Azigi is calling on Kumawood directors and producers not to cause factions among players since it will impact negatively on the industry.

According to him, it is necessary to cast talented actors for roles they can play and not because they are a director or producer’s favourite.

 “The problem is with the directors and the producers; some of them have favourites they always want to work with. Sometimes, you see a script and it is obvious who can best play a particular role, but they have their own people and will only use them. The director may have about 20 actors that he always falls on and then the producer also comes in with about five of his favourites.

“It is the directors who have brought about these factions. There are times a producer might want you in his production but the director will be an impediment because you are not in his camp. There is also some bias displayed by some actors. When they are called by directors, they want their close friends to also be part of the production even when they can’t play the role and this is not too good for the growth of the industry,” he stated.

Azigi pointed out that the Ghanaian movie industry has come a long way so industry players should work hard to favourably compete on the global stage.

“We are always comparing ourselves to Nigerians that they are far ahead while we are marking time but we have to understand that they have proper structures working to support their cause.

“Can we say same here?  Here is a situation that movie directors and producers select people for roles just because they are friends and not because they are good? How do we progress with such a mindset?” he stated.
