There’s no reason paying secular artistes higher than gospel musicians —Patience Nyarko tells event organisers

GOSPEL musician Patience Nyarko believes it is about time the narrative changed since no matter how big a Gospel artiste is, their charging fees cannot be compared to that of a secular act. The former is always paid better.

And although she wouldn’t back her claims with figures, she throws a challenge to any Gospel artiste who doubts or thinks she doesn’t know what she is talking about to come forward to refute what she is saying.

In an interview with the Graphic Showbiz, the Obi Nyani Me hitmaker said she was very sure of what she was saying.

“Look, let me tell you, event organisers always pay us less than our colleagues on the other side. No matter how big a Gospel musician is, they are always paid less than even a young secular artiste who has a little fame. There is no way any A-list Gospel musician in Ghana’s earnings is same as an A-list secular musician. .”

“Event organisers and the churches who invite us feel we do this for Christ so why should we charge big money. Meanwhile, Gospel musicians are better performers. Our stagecraft for instance is better than some of these secular musicians yet they take home much more than us,” she said.

To Patience Nyarko, it was about time Gospel musicians were paid well just as their secular contemporaries because they put in a lot in their craft.

“Most times, Gospel artistes record albums and not singles. And just like secular musicians, we also spend a lot of money to shoot music videos. If for anything at all, we should be paid more but as we speak, that is not the situation,” she stated.

Moving away from charging fees, Patience Nyarko disclosed she was ready with her new single, Tears of Joy, which drops tomorrow August 11, 2023.

Recorded by Joe Amoah, Tears of Joy resonates deeply with moments of happiness and celebration, as it beautifully summarises the emotions that overflow when joy fills the heart.

Patience Nyarko has performed alongside some of the renowned musicians in Ghana and beyond. Her previous releases, including Wafom Kwan, Wasore, Eboboba, Menwu, have solidified her reputation as one of Ghana's leading voices in Gospel music.
