Extend Children’s Support Fund

It is difficult to ignore humanitarian disasters.

The recent Air Force helicopter crash that took away the lives of the eight gallant men who were on national assignment will forever be etched in the memory of the nation.

The subsequent establishment of a fund to support the widows and children of the deceased is commendable.

However, it will be appreciated if the beneficiaries of this fund could be extended to cover other citizens who perish in the line of duty to the nation.

One of the biggest legacies of this tragedy will be the extension of the fund to cover families of teachers, nurses, journalists and other front-line workers who perish in service to the nation.

Charity should begin at home, but should not stay there.

What an enduring legacy it will be in memory of the deceased eight gallant men that, henceforth, death in line of national duty doesn't make the surviving family members live in perpetual deprivation!
