Hail the district doctor

There are two categories of public doctors, those who work in the city and those who work in the district (urban or rural). A lot of city doctors are specialists who have been trained to provide specialist services to cases of one discipline. 

District doctor

A typical district doctor is not a specialist but one whom circumstances have forced to learn and handle cases otherwise reserved for specialists on the job, thereby gaining the requisite experience. He is likely to work alone and therefore must be cogent in his decision making in order to manage cases effectively. He may double as the in-charge of the facility he works in.

Uneventful day

In an uneventful day, he may start work at around 8a.m. with ward rounds, which may take on the average two hours. He will then proceed to the outpatient department where cases of diverse nature may be waiting for his primary attenti
