The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has made an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Education for the release of outstanding funds to enable the completion of post-examination activities for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.

Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) clashed with authorities today, breaching the Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) amid growing frustration over the delayed declaration of the Ablekuma North parliamentary race results.

In a triumphant address to the nation, President-elect John Dramani Mahama has emphasised his commitment to deliver good governance to the people of Ghana, promising to govern with humility and integrity. 

Ghana has just conducted its ninth and yet another peaceful and successful general election in its fourth Republic. Once again, political power has switched from an incumbent government to an opposition party.

This election is significant for two reasons. It is the first time a former President has returned to win an election. Also, the outcome of this election presents the nation with an opportunity to have its first female Vice President.

One other striking observation worth making is the gap in parliamentary seats and the percentage margin between the NDC’s John Mahama and NPP’s Dr Mahamadu Bawumia which stands out in recent times at least since the 2004 election.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), has rejected the collated parliamentary results announced by the Electoral Commission (EC) for the Tema Central constituency in Greater Accra.

The collation of the results which started at the Chemu Senior High Technical School on Saturday night had to be continued at the Tema Regional Police Command on Monday, December 9, 2024, following disagreements which led to the firing of tear gas by the police leading to the collapse of one of the EC officials in the early hours of Sunday.

The 2024 flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged members of the NPP not to indulge in blame games.

Rather, he has urged them to unite and be encouraged for the future.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to intervene and stop National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters from gathering at collation centres armed with offensive weapons.

Dr. Bawumia’s remarks follow reports of NDC supporters massing at collation centres to challenge parliamentary results and protest delays in the declaration of some constituencies.

Patrick Yaw Boamah, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central has decided to contest the results of parliamentary election in court.

This follows the declaration of Baba Abubakar Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the winner.

The President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, is expected to appoint his representatives to the Transition Team for the transfer of power within the next 24 hours.

This is in line with Section 1 of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012, (Act 845) which enjoins both the incumbent President and President - Elect to appoint representatives to the  Transition Team within 24 hours after declaration of the Presidential results.

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Mamle Morrison has opened up on what she describes as divisions in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which has resulted in the party losing power after two terms in office and also losing many parliamentary seats in the 2024 elections.

Some youth suspected to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday invaded the Bono Regional Forestry Commission premises to ransack the offices.

This is part of a number of post election issues in relation to looting, vandalism and destruction of properties in some locations across the country.

The head office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Accra, has also been ransacked. The constituency office of the incumbent Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful who has been defeated in the 2024 parliamentary election has been ransacked.

Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force movement, who is commonly referred to as Cheddar has proven that he is indeed the new force in Ghana's political terrain as he beat Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen by a difference of 53,276 votes in the 2024 presidential election.

He garnered a total of 84,478 votes to place third in the presidential election as against a well established political colossus in the name of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen who placed 4th with a total of 31,202 votes.

The Electoral Commission has declared John Dramani Mahama as the winner of Ghana's 2024 presidential election.

Independent presidential candidate and leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, has congratulated former President John Dramani Mahama on his success in the 2024 elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra today (December 9), Mr. Bediako acknowledged that while the new government had achieved success, there is still much work to be done.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged its members to celebrate with respect and refrain from damaging state property.

The party acknowledged reports of incidents where some of its supporters have engaged in vandalism of state property across the country.

Addressing a press conference at the party's Head Office at Adabraka-Accra, the National Communication Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi condemned the acts of vandalism by some of the party supporters and instances of violence which has resulted in the death of some party supporters.

The Electoral Commission has declared the National Democratic Congress candidate for the Okwakwei Central, Baba Sadiq Abdulai as the winner of the parliamentary election.

The Civic Forum Initiative, a civil society platform on good governance and democracy, has called on the leadership of the National Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to call their supporters to order to refrain from acts of violence while the collation of results is being finalised by the Electoral Commission (EC).
