Liberia: Ebola claims 9 lives in 1 family

The deadly Ebola virus has claimed the lives of nine members of a family in Liberia.

Cynthia Sangbai-Kwennah has lost her mother, father, sister, nephew, niece, in-law and cousin to the virus which has claimed 1,069 lives, according to recent World Health Organisation figures.

The outbreak began in Guinea and has spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

This week, a group of ethicists gathered by the WHO unanimously concluded that it is ethical to offer unproven medications to fight the Ebola virus, even if their effectiveness or adverse effects are unknown.
