Mrs Owusu-Ekuful gave the advice in a speech read on the behalf by Mr Stallone Nyarko, a representative from the Ministry for Communication and Digitalisation at the 21st graduation ceremony of the Ave Maria School at Dansoman, Accra.

The graduation was on the theme, “Digitalising education in the 21st century: The role of stakeholders”.

Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said though teaching and learning was made possible through the internet during the wake of the pandemic, however, the youth are now misusing the opportunity given to them to use it to study, rather they prefer to watch inappropriate videos and chat with strangers.

She called for the digitalisation of Ghana’s educational systems in order to promote digital literacy among students and teachers.

“Digitaliisation will extend learning beyond tests and classroom assignments. It will ultimately expose teachers and learners to a new world of teaching and learning which is an essential component of the 21st Century education”, she said.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Daniel Ayivor, in his report, said the junior high school used two semester system instead of the usual three terms because of the Covid-19 but they were able to cover all the syllables before writing the BECE.

He stated that strict measures were put in place throughout the two semesters so no case of COVID was recorded in the school.
New prefects were inducted into office at the ceremony.

The graduates were presented with prizes, medals and a Bible along with their certificates.
From the graduating class, Miss Karah Maame Afia Pinamang Owusu, took home the overall best student of the year along with two other awards.

In an interview, she said this was a dream come true because she worked hard to be on top in all the examinations and was happy that all her efforts had yielded good results.
