Father of brutalised boy makes a U-turn.

Ebenezer Osei Bonsu, the 26-year old father standing trial for causing harm and assaulting his three year-old son for damaging his phone and wetting his bed, has now pleaded guilty to the two charges.


Bonsu initially pleaded not guilty to the two counts and was admitted to the bail sum of GHC50, 000 with three sureties to be justified.

He was however, unable to meet the bail conditions and has been in police custody since May 14, when he was granted bail.

New plea
At the last court hearing, the Attorney General announced its intention to take over the case and withdraw it from the Circuit Court for onward trial at the High Court.


However, at yesterday’s (Tuesday, June 2, 2020) hearing, Bonsu changed his plea from not guilty to guilty simplicita.

Sentencing
The court presided over by Ms Patricia Amponsah, thus convicted him on his own guilty plea.


She, however, deferred the sentence to next week, Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

Background
Early this month, the police at the Manhyia Division arrested 26-year old national service person, Ebenezer Osei Bonsu, for assaulting and causing harm to his three-year old son which he had with Barbara Obeng.


The harm was noticed when Barbara with the help of the police retrieved the boy from the custody of the father at Buokrom where he had gone to celebrate his birthday.


He was later arraigned before the Kumasi circuit court on May 14, 2020 where he pleaded not guilty to the two counts of causing harm and assault.
