Fix education system, roads — Children appeal to govt

A number of children have appealed to the government to make year 2022 a better one by fixing the education system and roads, as well as improve their general wellbeing to enable them to study and grow in a healthy environment.

They said the education system was confusing now, classrooms were needed to stop the double track system and more information was also needed to know what would replace the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), if it was abolished.

In separate interviews with the Junior Graphic on their expectations and resolutions for this year, they said they
expected the government to fix the roads to ensure that every village had accessible road network to enhance development of those areas.

Some of the children also appealed to parents to have more time for their children than their work so they can instill in them good values to enable them to become responsible citizens.

They also shared their resolutions for the new year.

Yuosa Suad Kadallah,
Glory Kindercare Learning Complex,
Sunyani, Bono Region.
I don’t understand what is going on in our education system anymore because a lot has changed.
We want more information in order to make the right choices.
I expect the government to build more schools and classrooms so that the double track system would be a thing of the past. I am hoping that I won’t be part of the double track system.
I also want parents to put their children first in everything they do.
This year, I have resolved to be the best version of myself  and also be the best in everything I do.

Benedict Kwie Coffie,
St Dominic Roman Catholic School,
Akwatia, Eastern Region.
It is my wish that  the Ghana Education Service (GES) will restructure the education system so that we can go back to the old system instead of the semester system.
I also expect the government to improve our education system by providing the right textbooks for effective teaching and learning.
I want to write more this year, that is, writing short stories for publication in the Junior Graphic.

Etornam Faith Wadzah,
Pentecost Prep. School,
Madina, Accra.
Most of our roads are very bad and this makes movement difficult so I would like the government to fix that.
There are still power outages in my area which makes learning difficult. I wish that the situation is improved.
It is my expectation that workers will get good conditions of service so parents will get more money to take good care of their children’s education.
The Ghana Education Service should also ensure that schools have good learning materials and toilet facilities.
My New Year’s resolution is to study hard and to give to the poor.

Christopher Gafah Boateng,
Ho Fiave M/A JHS,
Volta Region.
I  want to study hard and pass the BECE so I can  gain admission to the school of my choice.
I also pray my parents would work so they can continue to take care of my basic needs as they have been doing since I was little.
I just want the government to put in place interventions that will make life comfortable  for our parents. If life is difficult, children suffer the most.

Hannatu Muhammed,
Al-Munawwarat Islamic Academy,
Volta Region.
It is my wish that the  government will open the borders so my father can visit us as he used to do.
My father is in Togo and it is now difficult for him to visit us since the President closed the borders in 2020.
My mother also used to sell items in Togo, but she also can no longer go there to sell to get more money to support our education.
Just before we vacated two of my school mates died due to the bad nature of the road they were travelling on so I plead with the government to fix the roads irrespective of how remote a town is.
As for me, my resolution is to be the best student in my class this year.

Esther Nhyira Agyeibea Amoah,
Akuapem Hills Preparatory School,
Eastern Region.
I hope that parents would have more time for their children so they would get the assurance that their parents take interest  in whatever they do.
Also, I expect the government to improve on our education system by providing the right textbooks for the subjects we are studying as well as strengthen the private sector to employ more people so that our parents who are not gainfully employed can work to earn a living and take care of our needs.
I also intend to put the past behind me and focus on the future. Let’s all pray for a good year in 2022.
