SHS students attend summer school
A week’s summer school has been organised for 250 senior high school students drawn from all parts of the country.
The summer school was organised by the Methodist University College Ghana (MUCG), in collaboration with Inspire Ghana to educate participants on how to choose and develop career goals.
The participants would be coached by a group of volunteers in subject areas such as Sales and Marketing, Law, Music Production, Journalism, Nursing, Economics and Medicine.
Youth and employment
Addressing the students, the Principal of MUCG, Rt Rev Samuel Kwasi Adjepong, observed that the importance of the youth in national development could not be underestimated, and stressed that there was the need to frequently engage the youth in such programmes in order to explain to them the realities on the job market.
“The competitive nature of today’s job market demands that people have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of a particular job before they can be employed,” he said.
He, therefore, promised that the university would continue to take part in such initiatives to help encourage the youth to pursue career objectives.
The founder of Inspire Ghana, a non-governmental organisation that focuses on the teaching and mentorship of the youth, Ms Aba Abekah-Mensah, advised the students to focus on their goals in spite of all the challenges that they might encounter in life.
She said one could not achieve greatness on a silver platter, as determination and hard work were also important for one to be successful.
