Speaking at the function, a Nutrition Officer at the Kaneshie Polyclinic, Madam Edith Tawiah, said fruits should be taken in three times a day because they contained water solubles and needed to be replaced quickly.

According to her, fruits play a very vital role in  human beings because they protect the body against diseases.

She advised children against blending citrus fruits with other fruits to avoid indigestion.

Madam Tawiah also said fruits that were rich in fibre should be taken in whole; they should not only drink the juice.

“Fruits should be taken one hour after meals to act correctly in body building and food digestion. However, oranges should not be used to break fast because of its acidic content,” she said.

The Event Co-ordinator and a teacher at Ladlink School, Mr James Nana Yeboah, explained that the school had set a day aside to educate the children on the benefits of fruits.

The Fruits Day, however, enlightened students on fruits that were not too common in our country.

Mr Yeboah advised the students to substitute fruits with drinks to make them live healthier lives and be happy at all times.
