Court issues bench warrant for arrest of suspected sheep thief

The Amasaman Circuit Court has ordered the arrest of 17-year-old herdsman, Alhassan Yunus, after he failed to appear before the court in connection with the theft of five sheep valued at GH¢15,000.

The accused was expected to appear in court on November 30, 2025, but proceedings could not continue as a result of his absence.

The presiding judge, Mrs Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, issued a bench warrant and adjourned the case to December 11, 2025.

Brief facts

According to the facts presented by Chief Inspector, Frederick Awuah-Ansah, the case began on July 18, 2025, when complainant, a mechanic, Mohammed Seidu, from Obeyeyie near Amasaman in Accra, returned home to find his five sheep missing.

A search led straight to Yunus, who was reportedly found with the animals.

The prosecutor added that Yunus admitted taking the sheep and told the Police he handed them to a trader called Mariwan Amadu of Achiaman, Accra, because he owed him money.

He added that Amadu was later arrested on July 24 and confirmed receiving the animals, though he claimed the sheep had wandered off to graze and never returned.

Yunus is wanted on charges of unlawful entry and stealing, while Amadu faces a charge of dishonestly receiving.

Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah said the police were continuing efforts to bring Yunus before the court.
