Ghana Police Band kicks off vocal capacity building workshop
In a bid to enhance their musical prowess and enrich their performances, the Ghana Police Band has launched its 2023 edition of a 14-day capacity building workshop.

In attendance at the event, held at the Police Headquarters, Tesano, Accra last Tuesday was the President of the police band, COP Habiba Twumasi Sarpong, the Music Director of the Ghana Prisons Band, ASP Edgar Dowuona, the Director of the Ghana Fire Service band, D01 Isaac Kpodo and the Music Director of the Central Police Band, ASP Kofi Agyemang-Badu.
During the ceremony, the Director of Bands, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Frank Hukporti, expressed his enthusiasm for the workshop’s potential impact.
He stated, “this year’s edition will be led by renowned German music teacher and director, Mr Stephan Flore.
Through his skills, our singers will be empowered with new vocal techniques and harmonisation methods”.
ACP Hukporti added that the workshop would also train singers on how to captivate audiences with Ghanaian folklore, afro beat, gospel and highlife tunes from various regions.
Speaking to Mr Flore who has worked with the Police Band since 2015, he said it was his first time training this particular band and expressed his excitement to work with them.
Mr Flore, who has been in the industry for over four decades, added that he will be integrating local tunes with classical ones as a way to promote the country’s rich heritage, cultural diversity and unity.
“I have planned an intensive programme that will cover a range of vocal techniques, including breath control, vocal warm-ups, pitch modulation and harmony blending”, he said.
COP Habiba Twumasi Sarpong commended the collaboration.
“This will allow our band, the pride of the nation, deliver thrilling performances at various events and public engagements”, she expressed.
