Music therapy hits a high note at Ho Teaching Hospital

MUSIC therapy is gaining popularity at Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH), where it forms part of a pioneering initiative under the facility’s growing wellness and medical tourism agenda.

The initiative seeks to integrate evidence-based complementary therapies into conventional healthcare, the Chairman of the Governing Board of HTH, Dr Delanyo Dovlo, has said.

He said since the establishment of the Music Therapy Studio at the hospital, it had attracted clients from across Ghana, as well as international visitors, including ambassadors and high commissioners, seeking its unique therapeutic services.

“This innovation reflects our commitment to providing holistic health care while positioning HTH as a preferred destination for wellness and medical tourism within the sub-region,” Dr Dovlo said.

The board chairman disclosed this during an encounter with members of the Volta Region branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Ho on Thursday, August 6.

He said the music therapy studio was the first of its kind in West Africa and described it as one of the hospital’s proudest achievements.

Dr Dovlo explained that the therapy was often based on the client’s choice of music, allowing individuals to select music that suited their preferences and therapeutic needs.

Media collaboration

Dr Dovlo said the media remained one of HTH’s most important stakeholders, as it played a key role in influencing public confidence in health care, promoting healthy behaviours and bridging the gap between health institutions and the communities they served.

He said HTH continued to make significant strides in fulfilling its mandate of providing specialist health care, training health professionals and advancing research.

“Despite the challenges confronting the health sector, we remain focused on transforming the hospital into a centre of excellence that delivers safe, quality and patient-centred care,” Dr Dovlo affirmed.

The Chief Executive Officer of HTH, Dr Hintermann K.K. Mbroh, said the hospital would continue to engage the media to update the public on its progress, programmes and services.

He expressed the hope that the Ho Airport, which is located close to the hospital, would help attract more clients from other regions to the facility.

The Volta Regional Chairman of the GJA, Dr Harrison Belley, said the association had always provided a platform for HTH to engage with the public.

He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to informing the public about the operations and services of the hospital, as well as protecting the facility’s good image in the broader regional and national interest.
