Police request second report in defilement case: After first report confirms bleeding but not penetration

INVESTIGATIONS into a case in which a teacher allegedly defiled a three-year-old girl at Fulanikope, near Ho last Saturday (August 13), has taken a different turn with a report from the medical examination carried out on the girl.

Although the medical report from the Ho Municipal Hospital in the Volta Region confirmed that the girl bled from her private part from the alleged sex act, it maintained that her hymen was intact.

This has prompted the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Ho to request another medical examination on the girl from the Ho Teaching Hospital.

The suspect, Wisdom Ahiatsi, 23, who is said to be a teacher at a private basic school in the Ho Municipality, was arrested after the child was found in his room bleeding from her private part.

He was, however, granted a police enquiry bail on Tuesday to assist in the investigations.

A source close to the police told the Mirror that Ahiatsi and the girl’s mother were both tenants in the same house at Fulanikope.

The source said the mother of the girl realised that her daughter had been absent from her room that day for a long period; thus, she became worried and subsequently embarked on a search for her daughter in the neighbourhood, with no success.

Finally, she returned home and found the girl bleeding in the room of the suspect.

A complaint was then made to the Police, leading to the arrest of the teacher.

“So, the report on the second medical examination will determine the turn of the investigations into the matter,” the source, who requested anonymity, said.
