Don’t wait for your future to happen

Success as an act of suspicion

They were born with silver spoons in their mouths. They had people who helped them and that’s how come they are successful.

I know you have either heard these remarks or made them yourself. I have made such remarks so don’t be shy to admit that you have passed such comments before.

I wouldn’t disagree entirely that some get lucky or some are more fortunate than others in the race of success.

However, the generalisation of some of these misconceptions to all successful people is where I divert from.

For example, people tend to think that all successful women sleep their way to success.

While this may be true for some women, it is very wrong to assume that all successful women had to do that. I think it is generally wrong to say that all successful people are lucky. While you can say that for wealth, success is more of an intentional venture.

You can inherit wealth but not success. Tommy Newberry, an American author, speaker and businessman, in his book: “Success Is Not an Accident: Change Your Choices; Change Your Life,” highlights the intention of successful people and how they make choices that change their future.

In short, I would say that the difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is preparation. I believe that regardless of who we are, we will all have our share of opportunities in life.

But the distinguisher will be our position when our future (opportunity) arrives. Some will be nowhere to be found when their future arrives. Others will watch their future pass by without recognising it.

The only way to wait for the future is to prepare and that’s what successful people do. Let me just burst your bubble; I think successful people are the most suspicious people on earth.

Don’t get me wrong, I am only saying that it takes a lot of suspicions to be successful. Let me put it this way, success is the act of doubting your ability to succeed without preparation.

Those who do not prepare for the future often settle because they march into the future with the banner of the present instead of potential. In other words, those who do not prepare for the future believe more in their present than their potential.

There is no telling what you can do and choosing not to believe in your potential; it is the worst mistake you could ever make.

Success is simply being ready for an opportunity whether you created it by yourself or not. When opportunity arrives, your future has arrived.

What if our future arrives and we are not present? How is that even possible? I have seen way too many people miss out on their future for several reasons. The future we want to have will happen in a moment.

A moment of realisation, a moment of insight, a moment that makes all the difference. And that moment is the moment of prioritising preparation.

King Solomon-one of the wisest people who ever lived- said: “I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favour to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.”

Chance or opportunity happens to everyone under the sun. Don’t wait for your future to happen.

Having a wish without an action plan leads to nowhere. The future we hope for is but a reality we stand a chance of experiencing.

If you want to experience this successful future, you have to be suspicious. Be suspicious that opportunities could come your way anytime, therefore, be in a state of constant preparation.
