2024 WASSCE: WAEC uncovers several infractions
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said all examination officials found to have engaged in malpractices in the just ended 2024 West African Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) would be sanctioned.

In a press statement dated September 26, 2024 issued by WAEC, the Head of Public Affairs, John K. Kapi, explained that the council's inspectors noted several infractions involving supervisors, invigilators, and candidates.
These infractions included the photocopying and distribution of answers to candidates, the smuggling of mobile phones into the examination halls by both candidates and teachers, and the concealment of foreign materials by candidates during the exams.
"The Council will take appropriate action to ensure that all examination officials and stakeholders who were found culpable are sanctioned in accordance with the appropriate provisions of the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the examination", he stated.
Mr Kapi expressed the council's appreciation to stakeholders who reported institutions planning to engage in malpractice during the examination.
"Some supervisors and invigilators complied with the rules and regulations regarding the conduct of the examination. Most candidates also adhered to the Dos and Don'ts of the examination communicated to them during the sensitisation of candidates prior to the conduct of the examination", he added.
He said a total of 460,611 candidates participated in the exams.
This year's cohort comprised 247,657 female candidates and 212,954 male candidates from 1,003 schools that registered candidates for the examination.
