AAMUSTED launches 2 open-access academic journals

The Akenten Appiah-Minka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has held a ceremony to launch two open-access academic journals to contribute to knowledge sharing towards societal growth.

The two journals are the Journal of Technology Education and Applied Sciences (JTEAS) and the Journal of Applied Social Sciences and Entrepreneurship Education (JASSEE).

JTEAS is an international, peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing research and practical knowledge and technology education, applied sciences, STEM and the natural sciences.

It seeks to bridge theory and practice, offering a platform for scholars, educators and practitioners to share innovative research and solutions directly to address the needs of industry and society.

On the other hand, JASSEE is also focusing on the interconnected fields of humanities, education, business, management, communication and entrepreneurship education.

It is also uniquely positioned to bridge theory and practice by publishing research that not only contributes to academic debates, but also informs policy, improves practice and fosters innovation in society.

The event was on the theme: “Advancing knowledge in TVET and entrepreneurial education through open access publications”.

Freely available

In an address on his behalf, the Vice-Chancellor, AAMUSTED, Professor Frederick K. Sarfo, said knowledge must be freely available and not restricted towards the growth and development of society.

He added that the coming into being of the journals was a declaration of AAMUSTED’s readiness to lead in knowledge creation and dissemination.

Milestone

Professor Sarfo said the two journals were not only an institutional milestone, but also a matter of national importance, adding, “The journals will promote the publication of cutting-edge research in TVET.”

Such a move, he stated, would reinforce Ghana’s commitment to advancing TVET education, innovation and job creation for economic development and further commended all individuals who contributed towards the launch of the journals.

Seed planted

Delivering the keynote address, the Director, E-Learning Centre, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Eric Appau Asante, said every article published was a seed planted.

He said, “We may not know where the wind will carry it, but we can be sure it will germinate somewhere, perhaps in the mind of a student, will be in the hands of an entrepreneur, perhaps in the policy of a nation”.

“Today, AAMUSTED is planting not just one tree, but a forest of knowledge. And generations yet unborn will harvest from it,” he said.

Knowledge shared

He stressed that institutions that would thrive in the century were those that open their doors to the world and noted that AAMUSTED had not just opened its doors, it had built a new highway for knowledge.

In a remark, the Director, Directorate of Research, International Programmes and Institutional Advancement (DRIPIA), Professor Ebenezer Boanyah, said the journals would query the intellectual voice of the institution and the wider academic environment.
