Aligning tertiary education with global standards: PUFA-Ghana reaffirms readiness to partner government

The Private Universities Founders Association (PUFA)-Ghana has reaffirmed its dedication to partnering the government to ensure that tertiary education in the country remains competitive, inclusive and aligned with global standards.

A statement signed and issued by the President of the association, Dr Paul Kofi Fynn, said PUFA-Ghana remained highly encouraged by the government's openness to dialogue and its proactive approach in altering the mandatory time-bound chartering requirements for private universities and making the policy optional, which was essential for fostering the sustainability of the sector.

Audience with presidency

The statement was issued after members of PUFA-Ghana were granted an audience by President John Dramani Mahama and the Vice-President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, at the Jubilee House in Accra.

It said PUFA-Ghana was “deeply grateful to His Excellency, the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, and the Vice-President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, for the audience granted to the association at the Jubilee House.

“At this landmark meeting, the President gave PUFA-Ghana a platform to address urgent issues in the Private tertiary education sector, most notably, the changing policy direction towards the optional-chartering of private universities.” 

Significant milestone

It said the engagement marked a significant milestone for the association and private universities, as it was the first time such an audience had been granted an audience with the Vice-President in attendance.

“PUFA-Ghana views this high-level presence as a signal that the government recognises the sector as a vital pillar in Ghana's educational landscape and attaches a high priority to the growth and sustainability of private universities,” the statement said.
