The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Bishop Herman College (BIHECO), Kpando, has donated 102 mono-desks worth about GH¢40,000 to the school in a move to address the furniture deficit in the classrooms.
The PTA Chairman, Seth Kwame Kpedor, who presented the furniture, said the gesture was also to provide a comfortable ambience for the students to pursue their studies.
Conducive environment
“We recognise the need for a conducive learning environment in the school and the donation is meant to address that need to some extent,” he added.
Mr Kpedor gave an assurance that the PTA would continue to support BIHECO in various ways to enable it to maintain its sterling image.
In that vein, he said, the PTA would complete work on the ground floor of the two-storey two-bedroom 12-unit staff quarters on the campus this year.
Timely donation
The headmaster, Francis Kudolo, who received the items, thanked the PTA for the gesture, which he described as timely and essential.
“The second-year students are currently using the available desks for their end-of-semester examinations; the third-year students would have faced problems sitting in the classrooms if we had not received these desks,” the headmaster explained.
He pledged that the desks would be handled with great care to last for many years.
Mr Kudolo acknowledged a donation of 40 desks recently from the Vice Chancellor of the Ho Technical University, Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga, and appealed to the alumni of the school and the public to similarly support BIHECO, which was now in need of 800 desks to meet its growing enrolment.
He announced that a sod would be cut in a few days for a project to reconstruct the school’s main gate, adding that the project was being sponsored by the American Chapter of the Bishop Herman Old Boys Union (BHOBU).
