Ghana has bright future with STEM education — Rev. Fordjour

Ghana has a bright future because of the way the country has embraced Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, a Deputy Minister of Education, John Ntim Fordjour, has said.

He said for instance with the STEM policy, students were being trained to be problem solvers, critical thinkers and to apply creativity to bring about development.

He commended private schools that had embraced the policy and indicated that those who would need assistance would be supported in the delivery of STEM education to Ghanaian children.

Mr Fordjour said this last Saturday at the graduation ceremony for 236 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates of the Young Executive School and the Onua Francis International School at Kasoa in the Central Region.

YES presented 166 graduates with the rest coming from Onua Francis. It was on the theme: "Equipping the Young Generation through Quality Education for a better tomorrow".

Mr Fordjour said taking children through STEM, among other things, would result in inventions and the churning out of industrialists and personalities such as Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and Bill Gates

“So Ghana has a bright future with the way people have embraced STEM education,” he emphasised.

Authorities

He said he was impressed with the 21st Century learning that was taking place at the two schools and other institutions in the country and commended the authorities for their good works in the education sector.

He said one sector that should not be politicised was that of education since it held the future of the country. “At this stage in the lives of the children, they do not know the New Patriotic Party-National Democratic Congress and so let’s use the fear of God, 21st Century learning and values that would help them in their future,” Mr Fordjour said.

He said the development of the human capital was critical to the growth and development of the country.

For his part, the Director of YES and the Onua Francis International School, Noble Francis Essel Okyeahene entreated the graduands to exhibit good manners at home as they awaited their results.
