Restore nation’s sporting pride — Ray Quarcoo

The Lifetime Patron of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Mr Ray Quarcoo, has urged contemporary sports administrators to restore the nation’s sporting front to its dizzying heights of old.

The Goodwill Sport Ambassador said pragmatic steps were needed to develop talents into world contenders in every sphere of the sports enterprise.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic ahead of his 90th birthday, Mr Quarcoo said the nation had its sporting destiny in its hands, and that talent development would require conscious dedication and support to yield the desired outcomes.

Having played a pivotal role in the development of sports in Ghana over the years, SWAG honoured him as the organisation’s Lifetime Patron for a life of dedicated philanthropy to sports.

Beyond that, perhaps, he has hardly received the desired recognition for a life dedicated to the development of sporting talent, with his investment contributing to the rise to stardom of Ghana's first world champion, David Kotei (DK) Poison; former world featherweight and super featherweight champion, Azumah Nelson; former welterweight champion, Ike Quartey; bantamweight champion, former WBC International light-flyweight champion, Ebo Danquah; former world bantamweight champion, Nana Yaw Konadu, and former Commonwealth featherweight champion, Thunder Ayeh.

As he marks his 90th birthday, the local sports fraternity celebrates one of its chief benefactors with pride.
