Kwesi Appiah: We will fight to raise the flag of Sudan at AFCON 2025

Sudan head coach James Kwesi Appiah has reaffirmed his team’s determination to compete with pride at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, vowing that the Falcons of Jediane will fight to raise the Sudanese flag on Africa’s biggest football stage.

Since taking charge, the Ghanaian tactician has overseen a notable resurgence in the Sudan national team, instilling belief, discipline and renewed ambition within the squad.

As Sudan prepare to embark on their continental campaign, the focus is firmly on making a strong statement and writing a new chapter in the country’s football history.

Appiah revealed that the team arrived in Morocco in high spirits following their participation in the FIFA Arab Cup 2025 in Qatar, with preparations for the tournament progressing smoothly both on and off the pitch.

In an exclusive interview with CAFOnline, Appiah shared his thoughts on Sudan’s ambitions, the mood in camp and the resolve driving his players as they begin their AFCON Morocco 2025 journey.

On the atmosphere in camp
“We arrived safely from Qatar after taking part in the FIFA Arab Cup, and the atmosphere here in Morocco has been excellent. The hotel, accommodation and transportation are all very good. Everything is in place.”

On the team’s readiness
“Sudan is well prepared for the competition, and we hope to present ourselves in the best possible way during the finals.”

On Sudan’s group-stage prospects
“We are in a strong group with Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso. But Sudan is also a good team, and I am confident that we can progress beyond the group stage.”

On his message to the players
“All Sudanese people want the players to enjoy themselves. This team must fight and give everything it has to make the people happy.”

On what it takes to win AFCON
“The tournament is very tough. You must fight, fight and fight in every match, while preparing the team both mentally and physically.”
