The Good Shepherd Methodist School Complex at Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra, has received a 10,000-litre Polytank and a rehabilitated dysfunctional borehole from the Men’s Fellowship of the Good Shepherd Methodist Church.
The cost of the entire project is GH¢25,000. It formed part of activities marking the 40th anniversary celebration of the Men’s Fellowship of the church.
At a ceremony to hand over the project to the school, which also marked the graduation of some of the pupils, the Chairman of the Good Shepherd Methodist Men’s Fellowship, Dr Wordsworth Odame Larbi, explained that the fellowship had not been intentional in extending a helping hand to the school, which belonged to the church.
Therefore, he said, after much deliberation and further consultations with the school authorities about their needs, members of the fellowship got to know that because of the absence of water supply to the school, it was compelled to buy some from commercial people, which was quite expensive.
Following advice from experts, he said they realised that the school’s dysfunctional borehole could be rehabilitated and mechanised, and so they did it for them.
He expressed the hope that with the mechanised borehole, the school would now have a constant water supply.
Sanitation
The headteacher of the school, Elsie Van-Dyck Asankoma, said the mechanised borehole and the tank would help the institution in diverse ways.
“Now the children can wash their hands before and after meals. When they visit the washrooms, they can also wash their hands. It is a very good initiative the Men’s Fellowship have undertaken for the school. We appreciate it so much, and we are optimistic that it will be put to good use and make sure it is safe for the children,” she said.
The Superintendent Minister of the Kaneshie North Circuit of the Methodist Church Ghana, Very Rev. Kofi Agyekum-Agyen, who received and dedicated the mechanised borehole and tank, commended the Men’s Fellowship for the initiative and expressed the hope that it would be put to good use.
Present at the ceremony were ministers, leaders and members of the Men’s Fellowship of the church.
The school was established on August 30, 2012, with four learners. It currently has 285 learners.
