The scholarship, which is in its second year, is an initiative of Mahogany Consult, a public relations, events and change management consultancy in Ghana, in partnership with the Future Communicators Foundation (FCF) Scholarship, a non-profit organisation based in Canada.

The applicants are expected to develop a communication campaign that focuses on the theme: “Campaign on the theme using inexpensive resources to inspire action and drive meaningful behavioural change in Ghana”.

The broad theme for this year’s scholarship is: “Communicating the climate crisis: Motivating and measuring behavioural change.”

Entries will go through a judging process and awardees will receive their two-year tuition fee as well as mentoring opportunities with Mahogany Consult.

The deadline for application is October 31, 2024, while the winners will be announced on November 12, 2024.

Launch

Announcing the launch of the scholarship, the Communications Manager at Mahogany Consult, Millicent Akunor, highlighted the firm's commitment to the project, stating, "We are excited to facilitate this scholarship opportunity once again and look forward to the innovative campaigns students will develop to tackle climate challenges.

“At Mahogany Consult, we believe in nurturing the next generation of communicators and supporting the growth of the communications industry in Ghana, West Africa and beyond,” she said.

The Founder of the PR Trust, the non-profit organisation that administers the Future Communicators Foundation, Allard W. van Veen, stressed that sustainability was one of the most pressing topics in today’s society.

He added that public relations professionals could play a prominent role in promoting sustainability, adding, “We hope that the scholarship will help to develop students’ social conscience and encourage them to make an impact, in terms of promoting a fair and sustainable world”.

For his part, a senior faculty member at the School of Communication Studies, WIUC-GH Professor Kwame Karikari, commended the facilitators for the kind gesture.

“This scholarship not only nurtures the next generation of communicators but also encourages them to contribute meaningfully to the pressing issue of climate change,” he said.
