TVET key driver of Ghana's development — Apaak

The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has stated that Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is a key driver of Ghana's development.

He said the government, well aware of the sector's impact on the economy, is investing in it to realise its full potential.

Addressing technical students at the Methodist Technical Institute (MTI) at Kumasi-Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region, he sent best wishes to them in the examination as they formally prepared to exit the second-cycle institution.

He also visited several centres, including the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI), the Tweidie Technical Institute (TTI) and the Business Secretariat Institute (BSTSI).

Dr Apaak assured the candidates that with effort, they would succeed, adding, “The President has asked me to convey to you through the minister that technical, vocational education is what is going to propel Ghana to achieve the development we want.”

That is why the minister has announced the establishment of three additional technical universities," the deputy minister told the candidates.

His assurance follows an announcement by his minister, Haruna Iddrisu, that the government plans to establish three new technical universities in three of the six newly created regions of the country.

This aims to ensure equal access to technical education at the highest level for all across the country.

Dr Apaak, during his interaction with the learners, assured them of the government's commitment to supporting TVET in Ghana and stated that, regardless of the path they chose after school, the administration would support them.

Those of you who want to continue from this level, we will provide for you.

Those who wish to practice with what you have learnt so far, we have also launched the National Apprenticeship Programme, which you can take advantage of.

"Ghana cannot progress; we cannot develop without technical and vocational training.

We prioritise you and promise that we will be with you regardless of the direction you decide to take," he told the candidates.
