Mrs Addy-Lamptey assumed office in May, 2018. She handed over to the Acting Head of the Test Development Division of WAEC, Dr Rosemond Wilson.

Innovations

The COVID 19 pandemic affected several operations of the council and it took her tenacity and determination to keep the office afloat.

For the six years that she held the position as HNO, Mrs Addy-Lamptey introduced a number of innovations, which have up-scaled the integrity of the operations of the council.

Notable among them were some security measures that went a long way to improve test security. Allied to that, she made sure that some adjustments were made to accommodate candidates with special educational needs in the council’s examinations.

With the introduction of inclusive education, these measures have ensured that candidates with Autism spectrum disorder and cerebral palsy have been able to sit for their examinations.

Portals

Several ICT portals were introduced during her tenure for the benefit of the general public, notable among them is the Index Number Retrieval Portal.

This has enabled several members of the public who have lost their certificates to retrieve their index numbers and to apply for attestation. As a key member in drafting the latest Strategic Plan for the WAEC, she was instrumental in ensuring that engagement with the public and our stakeholders, a key provision in the plan, was greatly enhanced.

A lot more people are able to appreciate the works of the council and have been able to ask relevant questions thereby clearing some doubts held by some members of the public about the council.

On the staff front, Mrs Addy-Lamptey is said to have paid serious attention to the welfare of personnel serving the council in various capacities, and operated an open-door policy that enabled staff to discuss pertinent issues, both personal and official.

Exams malpractice

In her remarks before finally bowing out, Mrs Addy-Lamptey bemoaned the canker of examination malpractice which was fast becoming the norm rather than the exception.

She called on all stakeholders: GNAT, NAGRAT, CHASS, the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education, security agencies and indeed all parents and guardians to come on board to nip in the bud the menace that had the potential of erasing all the gains made as a nation.
