West End University College admits fresh students
The West End University College (WEUC) in the Ga South Municipality in the Greater Accra Region last Saturday admitted 235 fresh students to pursue various courses in the institution.
They comprised 94 males and 141 females from Ghana and other neighbouring West African countries.
Speaking at the 10th matriculation ceremony, the Rector of the WEUC, Prof. Ben Oduro, told the fresh students that their journey of seeking higher education had just begun.

Importance
“We all know the importance of education, its effect on our country’s economy and the health of our citizens. It can help reduce poverty, increase income, boost economic growth and help us to lead healthy lifestyles,” he said.
Investing in education, he said, was the best decision the students had ever made in their lives and it was his belief that they would learn, nurture and develop knowledge and skills that would move them forward into the world.
Prof. Oduro said the university would train the students to be analytical thinkers to help find solutions to current problems, adding that “the relationships you develop here with the faculty, staff and other students would help you build your career”
Meeting
He stated: “I urge you to make this happen by meeting new people, tapping into new resources and ideas you come across in WEUC. You must also take advantage of the opportunity to familiarise yourselves with the institution and get to know your lecturers and fellow students.
He added that in spite of the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the WEUC had been resilient and resourceful to embrace new ways of learning including the use of e-learning technologies to facilitate teaching and complement its face-to-face classroom learning.
Prof. Oduro said the WEUC would provide the students with committed faculty who would assist them to fulfil their individual dreams and support services that were designed to help and challenge them.

“We have adequate learning facilities - classrooms and laboratories - to facilitate teaching, learning and research in the most conducive manner. Our ultra-modern library, which has a capacity for 96 students, has a collection of almost 2,500 items and e-library systems,” he said.
The Chancellor and Founder of WEUC, Mr Joseph Adjekum, charged the students to let their admission to the institution be relevant to what they inspired to do in life.
He, therefore, called on the students to take their studies seriously and remain focused since it was through that they could realise their dreams and objectives.
