SLOPSANS appeal for support towards GH2.7m dormitory project

The Accra-Tema chapter of the St Louis Senior High School Past Students Association (SLOPSA) has held its annual thanksgiving service in Accra to mark St Louis Feast Day.

The chapter used the occasion to appeal for funds for the construction of a two-storey dormitory project for the school in Kumasi, being sponsored by SLOPSA worldwide.

The project comprises a 600-bed dormitory, washroom and toilet facilities, as well as staff quarters, altogether valued at GH¢2.7 million ($700,000).

The association said an investment in the dormitory project (dorm project) would greatly help continue the success story and achievements of the St Louis Senior High School (SHS), where brilliant girls continued to pursue their dreams to impact society.

Girl-child education

The National President of SLOPSA, Ms Juliana Bruce, said the dorm project was an initiative launched by SLOPSA in support of girl-child education and to alleviate the problem of congestion in the school.

Ms Bruce explained that an increase in admissions in recent years had necessitated the project, which was being funded with contributions from past students.

“We are also appealing to the public and corporate organisations with interest in girl-child education to help raise the standard of education in Ghana in line with the government’s Free SHS policy to contribute generously towards this project,” she stated.

She added that all contributors towards the project would be acknowledged on the wall of fame to be constructed at the project site to list the names of all contributors.

Meanwhile, the national SLOPSA has embarked on a ‘ketewa biara nsua’ fundraising drive to fund the dorm project.
