Administering the Engineering Oath to the inductees in Accra last Thursday, the President of GhIE, Mr Kwabena Bempong, urged the new engineers to continually seek opportunities to upgrade their skills and keep up with emerging trends in their respective fields.

He appealed to them to adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct.

Mr Bempong said the integrity and ethics of the engineering profession were non-negotiable, adding “as engineering practitioners, we are not just technical experts; we are problem solvers and public servants whose work impacts the lives of many”.

In an address read on behalf of the Chairman of the Membership Committee of GhIE, Dr Patrick Amoah Bekoe, a member of the Membership Committee of GhIE, Samuel Boamah Danquah, said the election to become a member of any of the four occupational groups: (Professional Engineer; Professional Engineering Technologist; Engineering Technician and Engineering Craftsman) required the member to have a minimum educational qualification and at least three year’s post-qualification experience.

Advice

Giving a word of advice to the new inductees, a past President of GhIE, Dr Kofi Asare Yeboah, said the inductees should not forget to research and that they should be honest, punctual, respectful and take care of the needs of the people since engineering was solving problems of society.

The Chairman of the Engineering Council of Ghana, Dr Kwame Boakye, said until engineers were brought to the leadership role and governance in the country, there would be no development because no country developed without engineering.

He explained that the country “abounds in a lot of natural resources but we are still under-developed. Engineering is the solution”

The induction ceremony was attended by the Vice-President of GhIE, Ing Sophia Abena Tijani; President-elect Ing Ludwig Hesse; Executive Director of GhIE, Ing David Kwatia Nyante, council members and past presidents of GhIE.
