Some of the victims who are said to be in critical condition are responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). Fourteen of the victims, who received minor injuries, are also being attended to at the Suntreso Government Hospital at Suntreso and the SDA Hospital at Kwadaso respectively.

Accident

The accident occurred when a minibus veered off its lane and rammed into three other vehicles.

It occurred about 7.45 a.m. on at the very spot where eight persons were crushed to death in the evening of November 20 last year by a drunk driver.

According to eye witnesses, a Benz minibus with registration number GR 9324-N, which was travelling from Asuoyeboa, suddenly veered onto the lane of oncoming vehicles from Kwadaso, and crushed into the other three vehicles.

The vehicles are a taxicab, AW 7308-12; Nissan minibus, AE 400-12 and a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number, AW 6697-13.

A crowd of onlookers, mostly market women, who could not control their emotions, wept as some of the injured were carried away to the hospital.

Traffic

The accident caused heavy vehicular traffic on both sides of the dual carriage road, forcing commuters to walk from Asuoyeboa and Kwadaso and its environs to Kejetia, all suburbs of Kumasi.

Similarly, those driving from other suburbs such as Patase, Abrepo Junction and Kejetia had to wait for over two hours before they could continue their journey to their respective destinations.

When contacted, the Ashanti Regional Commander of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD), Superintendent Frank Abrokwa, said the police had begun investigations into the accident.
