Godwin Aboakpole and Lucas Koromo were found guilty by the court, presided over by Mrs Afia Adu-Amankwah, for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery and were each sentenced to 16 years in hard labour.

Aboakpole and Koromo, together with three others, conspired and robbed one Yaa Agyemang, a small scale miner based at Obuasi of gold ore worth GH¢2, 500.

Two of their accomplices, Elvis Kwaku Wewuku and Yussif Sallam, were acquitted and discharged of all the charges. The third one, George Eduful alias Barrier, is however, on the run.

Superintendent of Police (Supt), Mr Emmanuel Akonnor, had earlier told the court that on May 25, 2013 at about 9 a.m., Agyemang bought one sack of gold ore from two small-scale miners at Adansi Odumasi, near Obuasi, where her shop was located.

He said the complainant and the two miners together with her workers decided to process the said ore into powder.

According to him, it was while the complainant and her workers were about to start work that the convicts, together with their accomplices armed with locally manufactured pistols and machetes, barged into the shop and attacked them.

Supt. Akonnor said Aboakpole and Koromo subjected the complainant and her workers to severe beatings before making away with a sack of gold ore valued at GH¢2, 500.

He said Agyemang later made a complaint to the police and the two were later arrested.
