The scheme has also successfully done a special registration for all Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) beneficiaries in the district.

Meeting

The District Chief Executive for Asikuma- Odoben- Brakwa, Mr Albert Kwesi Inkoom, announced this while addressing the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the seventh assembly at Breman Asikuma.

He said the LEAP programme had successfully completed both the 40th and 41st cycle payment in the district to all beneficiary households.

Additionally, he stated that all beneficiaries had been registered and subsequently enrolled on the E-payment system and accordingly issued with E-Zwitch cards to secure their payments.

According to him, subsequent payments to the 702 households out of 793 in the district would be paid electronically.

Teenage pregnancy

Mr Inkoom bemoaned the high rate of teenage pregnancy in the district with a call for concerted efforts towards its control.

He expressed concern about the influx of telenovelas on most of our television screens, which exposes children to sex scenes which have the tendency to corrupt their morals.

Mr Inkoom called on parents not to allow their teenage girls to loiter about, particularly at night, as it would expose them to sexual abuse.

Access to rural finance

He stressed that the Business Advisory Centre, in partnership with the Brakwa-Breman and Assinman Rural banks, had disbursed a total of GH¢380,760 to 108 customers in the district for various purposes.

According to the District Chief Executive, the move of the Rural Enterprise Development Project was aimed at addressing the financial problems of medium and small scale enterprises in the district.
