The event, which coincided with the school’s 70th anniversary, saw the year group refurbishing the school’s home science department.

President of the year group, Mrs Abrafi Annan, said they chose the home science department as it was a place that trained young girls not just for exams but also to provide them with hands-on skills.

She said home economics has been cast as a “ a conspiracy to keep women in the kitchen”, an interpretation that has overlooked its impressive and diverse contributions as a field that brings science to the home.

She said the training acquired by home economics students was not just for grading purposes but also to train them to become influential entrepreneurs and future employers in the society.

“We want the girls to develop the values, knowledge and competencies to live full and satisfying lives as well as grow into confident, connected, actively involved individuals, who are ready to contribute to the future.”

She expressed gratitude to members of the Year Group, who helped raise GH¢150,000 for the project.
